What would prompt one to care?
Every spring the Bluebonnets will bloom along the side of the road and fields mainly on the eastern portion of Texas. If we have especially fair amount of rain, the fields will be carpeted in a spectacular violet. This inevitably bring cars parked on the side of the road and families taking pictures of their little ones amongst the Bluebonnet blooms. The family generally consist of a young couple with no more than 3 kids who aren’t much older than 7 or 8. It’s always nice to see them. They’ll be in various states of pose with the camera being manned by one parent or the other. Occasionally, there’ll be more than one family and they’ll ask the other to take pictures like tourists. If you went to Flickr and searched for “Texas Bluebonnets” you’re guaranteed to see some of these pictures.
This spring has been favorable and I’ve seen quite a few fields of them. Recently I’ve seen another sort of bloom that I can’t seem to identify. It’s either Phlox or Primrose, but I’m not sure. It’s a light lavender and white. They’re just as photogenic as the Bluebonnets, but I’ve noticed they don’t get any attention. No one stops by the side of the road to take pictures of themselves amongst their blooms.
Addendum: I’ve confirmed it. It’s Pink Evening Primrose or Pinkladies.
