I cribbed this off “I Will Teach You to Be Rich“, but it was so mindlessly stupid that I’m unable to hold myself back. I’m about to be hated by every woman who reads this for what I’m about to say. The article in question comes from the New York Times. It stated than an initial U. of Pennsylvania survey points to the possibility that some women in the U.S. may be going to their doctors less often because of the embarrassment of being weighed in public. That in itself is not too far-fetched. I think it’s quite possibly true given average U.S. bias and obsession for thin people. What I couldn’t believe was some of the comments left at the bottom of the article. Some of these idiots were willing to compromise their health so that they wouldn’t have to reveal or know their weight and possibly tear apart their delusions. Take this little nugget of enlightenment as an example:
I have declined to be weighed in the doctor’s office since 1975. Two internists said they would not treat me unless I got weighed–and made me get on the scale backwards (darn hard to do). Once, in the hosp, they insisted (though water retention and meds were not an issue). I also got on backwards and then they tried to write my weight on a white board in my room–I said absolutely no! They still started to write it and I threatened to leave. The head nurse, a man, finally capitulated–and wrote: “See chart.†Another time in the hosp, I refused the scale brought in all the time and they had a gizmo in the bed that could weigh me–and insisted on telling me the number. This is a club some doctors and nurses like to wield–and get their way! It’s almost like a power struggle.

No, you moron! They’re trying to make you aware of your health. Weight correlates quite well to how healthy a person generally is. They’re professionals. They’re not out to embarrass you. You’re doing that quite well on your own. You sound like a petulant child. Who the hell steps on a scale backwards?!
