It’s plain rotten this past week. The guy I’m workig with leaves and I’m uncertain as to how far the project will head without someone to take his place. The main water line coming into the house sprung a leak again after I had it patched last month before leaving for the holidays. Apparently, when my house was built the contractor got chintzy. To cut cost they used a plastic tubing instead of copper to run from the meter into the house. This plastic tubing costs half what an equal length of copper tubing would normally cost. The most galling thing about the whole situation is that they only saved money on the length of tubing running into the house, which comes to about 50ft at most. The rest of the plumbing in the house is all copper anyway, thankfully. Someone later pointed out to me that if a contractor were building a lot of houses, the savings in using this crappy plastic tubing would add up. Sure, but at your customer’s expense and your reputation. I guess that doesn’t count for much these days where money is involved.
I’ve been looking at plumbing quotes/bids for the main line replacement and I think I almost had a stroke when I got the first quote. In the back of my mind as I looking at the sum on the bottom line justed handed to me by the plumber, I was silently cursing the contractors who built the house, their spawn, and whatever posterity they may leave behind. Yeah, kids. That “hard-earned” money your half-assed contracting parents keep telling you about to guilt-trap you into doing what they want? It’s was had through less than honest means. I hope you’re enjoying it, because I certainly am not!
