Was quite productive today. Did the least amount of work I could possibly get away with. Currently sitting in the living room listening to KERA here in Dallas. The 90.1 at Night with Paul Slavens show is now one of my favorite Sunday evening activities while I’m cooking. It plays all these “eclectic” music that I wouldn’t normally get a chance to listen. Rather, I don’t have the time to go to a store, pick them out and see what suits my taste and what doesn’t. The how gives me an opportunity to do it in the comfort of my living room. Apparently the show’s only been on for the last three months. It starts at 7PM and runs three hours, and I’ve already found a few selections they’ve played that have piqued my interest since I started listening a month ago. I’ve been meaning to get myself back into listening to music that’s outside my interest and this radio show has given me an excuse. There’s also a live stream, if you’re not in Dallas.
I’ve never listened much to public radio, until a few years ago when I really started listening with more regularity. I got hooked. In a hurry. It’s informative and certainly more engaging than commercial radio. And the best part is that I don’t have to listen to commercials after every news broadcast or song. The primary reason as far as I can tell as to why I like public radio with the passing years is probably because I’m getting old. They call me “sir” now. They never use to call me sir. Mostly, it was “hey, you” or “how’s it going, young man?” I was a “young man.” Now I’m an “old fart.” Reminds me of a quote I heard a long time ago. Paraphrasing of course. [Young people are liberals. They will eventually become conservative in their old age.] I can’t remember the person to attribute the quote, but I certainly hope it’s not the case with me.
KERA is currently having their fall membership drive. I’ve already donated for the current year and I’ve promised myself to donate every year from now on as long as I possibly am able. If you’re a public broadcasat listener, please donate. Okay, I’m done with my public solicitation. Back to our regular progamming.
